Marcus Gualberto refers to himself as an “organic” director. That’s the holy truth in advertising. I realize now, that while I assumed I knew what it meant, I could never fully grasp it until I experienced his effect on my play, DENY WE WERE.


From the beginning, Marcus placed a premium on my words. In truth, Marcus rolled a snowball of reverence for text and drama to gather momentum and inspire each element it collected on the way to the stage. He guided the actors to own the space, their characters, and the soul of the story, in ways that introduced me in fresh ways, to my own work.
